Q.

Clozapine

I was on clozapine for about a year for treatment resistant depression. It helped my depression quite a lot. I started to get fat and drink loads of milk, a liter or more of coke every day. One day I collapsed and I was out for 3 days. In hospital my blood sugar was 68. I was taken off clozapine. These days my blood sugar has been around 5 for 6 weeks, sometimes around 4. I'm type 1. Would it be wise to go back onto clozapine.

Hi

Clozapine can caused increased appetite and weight, and lead to higher glucose levels as a consequence. If the Clozapine has caused issues before, then it may not be wise to go onto it again, however, the final decision would be up to the Psychiatrist, as they would know the options available and whether there are any alternatives
