Q.

Is it safe to split Exsira 50mg?

I am on Exsira 50mg for 2 years now, doing fine, except that I am a lot more anxious lately. I thought maybe I can increase my Exsira, but going up to 100mg instantly may cause side effects, I thought maybe I could try taking 75mg. I am 56 years old, I have social anxiety and depression. Thanks for you advise.

Hi CDJ,
Exsira is a trade name for the anti depressant Desvenlfaxine  Firstly, usually this drug is prepared for slow or extended release, so as to dissolve gradually, giving more steady blood levels and less side-effects, and to be taken once a day.  With such preparations, you are warned NOT to cut, split, crush or chew the drug a this could cause various problems.
It also sounds as though after a couple of years, if some of the symptoms have begun to get worse, it would be best to see your psychiatrist / GP again for a fresh assessment, and a discussion of your treatment choices at this stage,
