Q.

Phytol Plus

Is Phytol Plus safe for women to use that have had breast cancer. I was told it was and then when I went for my check up the Doctor at the Breast Center said I cant take it as it has Estrogen in. If so how long can you take it for?

Dear Helen, I am so pleased that you asked this question – I trust that many will read the answer to your question. No cancer patient (whether currently under treatment or a cancer survivor) should take any treatment, whether complementary or alternative without previously discussing this with their treating physician, gynaecologist or oncologist. This applies to vitamins, minerals or any other medication.

Phytol Plus is a homoeopathic herbal combination medicine and is said to assist postmenopausal women. It should only be taken under the supervision of a suitably qualified practitioner. Patients with oestrogen-dependent tumours, endometrial or mammary carcinoma, myomas, endometriosis, mastopathy, thrombosis, embolism, cerebrovascular disease, severe hepatic insufficiency, hepatic disease or a history thereof should preferably not take Phytol Plus at all. It should also not be used when pregnant or breastfeeding. It should be used with caution by individuals suffering from chronic depression, jaundice, chronic constipation, chronic diarrhoea, liver or gall bladder complaints, chronic urinary disorders and chronic nausea or vomiting. If taken incorrectly (especially higher doses) it may cause breast tenderness and uterine bleeding irregularities.  (MCH).

You should consult a medical practitioner or other appropriate health care professional for a physical exmanication, diagnosis and formal advice.
