Dear Anna, monthly periods is part of puberty for teenage girls – some,
however, suffer more than others with pain, heavy bleeding, or experience
irregular cycles, particularly in the first few years of menstruation. It would
seem that you are one of this unfortunate group of young women. I would suggest
that you first have an open and frank discussion with your doctor about your
problem – and if necessary, let him/her refer you to a gynaecologist with
experience in dealing with teenage menstrual problems. I wish to congratulate
you on not being sexually active – something which you can be very proud of.
Keep this up! Your current problems are not insurmountable. (MCH).
