Dear Zita, a swollen and painful breast should never be ignored. Your
breast is telling you that something is wrong. You fall in the age group where
you should have a mammogram every year (and not less than once every two
years). Whenever you see your doctor always have a clinical breast examination
included as part of your check-up. It is difficult to make a diagnosis without
a clinical examination and taking a full medical history. My advice is that you
make an appointment with your doctor to have your breast examined. He/she will
then be in a position to advise you on treatment, which may include a
mammogram. Please make an appointment with your physician without any dealy.
