Q.

Do I need to be worried? And do I need to go for a medical check up? Maybe my Go or a mammogram? Pls????

I have been having a painful, swollen right breast. Swelling went down but now I have this severe pain from my right breast into my right armpit going down my arm and also into my right blade at my back. Can't sleep on right side too painful. I'm 47yrs. Pls can u tell me what it could be? The pain seems to worsen and I can hardly sleep as I feel light headed and very very tired. My right side is being really affected as pain seems to spread.

Dear Zita, a swollen and painful breast should never be ignored. Your breast is telling you that something is wrong. You fall in the age group where you should have a mammogram every year (and not less than once every two years). Whenever you see your doctor always have a clinical breast examination included as part of your check-up. It is difficult to make a diagnosis without a clinical examination and taking a full medical history. My advice is that you make an appointment with your doctor to have your breast examined. He/she will then be in a position to advise you on treatment, which may include a mammogram. Please make an appointment with your physician without any dealy. (MCH).
