Die Mediese navorsingsraad het berig dat Suid-Afrika se program om MIV by babas te voorkom 'n 96.5% suksessyfer behaal het met die uitwissing van die oordrag van besmette, verwagtende moeders.

Besmettingskoerse by moeders het gewissel van15.6% in die dun-bevolkte Noord-Kaap tot  43.9% in KwaZulu-Natal, die provinsie wat die swaarste getref is.
