Skin allergy

Dear Doc, My son is 7 years old and went for a Adenoidectomy. I have also asked the ENT-surgeon to do some allergy tests. He said my son is allergic to diary and dust mites. I have two questions: 1) What does diary allergy means? He mentioned that he can still eat foods with milk in it like cake, marie biscuits, etc. because of the milk process. Milk should be Soya Milk. I need to have a better understanding to what it is that he is allowed to have and what not? 2) Allergic to dust mites. How do we handle that? He said we should invest in the more expensive vacuum cleaners like Kirby, but that is VERY EXPENSIVE. I went do Verimark and they told me about the Genesis HydroVac Extreme that also removes dust mites, but it works with water. The Doc mentioned that we should not get the "cheaper" models that works with water, but now I am very confused. The Kirby is between R18000 and R25000 where the Verimark is Less than R5000. I really do not know what to do? Please advise. Thank you in advance.

The Allergy Foundation of South Africa would be able to assist you with more cost effective house dust mite eradication measures and they have a website at The cow's milk allergy question is a difficult one, as the degree of milk allergy may vary from person to person, and some people may tolerate cooked milk and not raw milk. 20% of cows milk allergic children may also be allergic to Soy milk, so its not an ideal alternative. Your son is 7 years old so probably doesn't really need cows milk in his diet any longer.
