Q.

Allergic to potato starch

My partner is allergic to potato starch (and Maltodextrin), but not other starches, are sweet potatoes or any other types of yams etc, safe?  She has been tested on all other starches and they are ok. Her reaction to potato starch ranges from a migraine to anaphylactic shock, depending how strong her immune system at the time. Any help would be very appreciated. Kind Regards Peter

Potato is actually quite a common allergy in children (together with cows milk, egg, peanut, fish, soya and wheat).  Sweet Potato contains a different allergen and is relatively non-allergy provoking and we often recommend it as a hypo-allergenic first food in children.
