Hi doc
My son aged 14 yrs is on 30mg ritalin each morning. I would like to know what he should weigh for his age please. He' s looking a bit skinny to me. Thank you! His height is about 1.6

Dear J,
Being on Ritalin, it is common for children to be a 'bit skinny' due to their reduced appetite most experience. Weight is also dependent on bone structure, amount of muscle and metabolism. More important than how he looks is his energy levels and general feeling of wellbeing; if these are high there is generally little to worry about. Having said all this, a (very) rough guideline for his age and height is between 45 to 65kg.

My son also 14yrs and also on 20 mg ritalin in the morning. He weighs 45.5kg and is also 1.6m and the doctor says that is fine for his age and height.
