Please take your son for a thorough assessment for ADHD at a psychiatrist or psychologist. Children with ADHD can often hyperfocus on activities they are interested in or enjoy (e.g. TV and computer games).

Hallo mom. I'm a mom of a gr 1 too. His whole life he was this bubbly, talkative, busy body, whom everyone thought were just the cutest thing. He made up stories, and mostly fables like you won't believe, and we thought he's got this huge imagination and it's wonderfull. It was all fun and games until we started noticing that he's clowning to the point were I want to climb the walls, an won't let you speak, he did the most random things, which apon questioning him, he'd say that he does not know why he does it, and although he tries not too, can't help it. So after I nearly had a breakdown from he's Gr R teacher telling me maybe we should get him tested blah blah blah, and also threw in the word medication, i nearly lost it. I was in denial and so defiant. Eventually, actually more out of rebellion than anything else, I took him too a Psycologist who's very good with children. And after some sessions she started pointing out things that were not normal behaviour for a child that age. I started watching him and observed these things as well. I started reading up on ADHD symptoms and soon had to admit to myself that my son might have ADHD and he could not go on like this to Gr 1, he simply would not have made it. So after many sleepless nights, tears, prayers, guilt and many other emotions, he ended up at a Psychiatrist who prescribed concerta, and let me tell you, now he is doing outstanding academically at school. He's still bubbly and all the rest, but more intune with reality. He talks a lot still, but talks sense, not about fantastical things like he used to do. So keep an open mind, get him to a good psycologist to evaluate him, and they will pick up if there are things that need to be addressed. Good luck to you, and to all the moms out there scared as hell to walk this road. You are not alone.
