Additional Aids

My son has ADD, and has been on medication for the last 4 years. this year on recommendation from his previous school, which catrered for kids with learning disabilities, I moved him into a mainstream school. The move was very positive for him on many levels except academically. he seems to be battling in many subjects and his reading and comprehension is very poor. Is there alternative learning aids that I can use to assist him? And how can i assist to improve his concentration, he is on Ritalin?

Dear Parent,

Firstly I must apologise for the delayed reply. There are many programmes like the one has mentioned which use a computer game like scenario to improve concentration. There is also the option of looking at Neurofeedback, which aims to train individuals how to monitor their own brainwaves and control which ones they are using to improve concentration and energy levels. There is also a non invasive, excercise based programme (Dore) which stimulates the cerebllum and thereby improves many symptoms of AD/HD and other learning difficulties. There are many products available, and some research will need to be done on which one can offer the best solutions to your son's specific range of difficulties.

Kind regards.

Dear parent. I feel like i'm repeating myself over and over on this forum. But I really believe that the program I did helped me to get where I am today. There was a huge change in my concentration ability and the skills I have learned I will take along till the day I die. The whole program is focused on the learning essential skills, which helped me to concentrate better, have a better understanding of what I’m reading, and also to concentrate for longer periods at a time.
