Q.

ADD/ADHD

My son is turning 12 this year. It took me a long time to realise that he has learning problems. Early last year he was diagnosied as a ADD/ADHD child and thus Retilin was prescribed. I only used it for months and as I got scared of side effects , I resorted to the Patrick Holford off the shelve medication. There is some progress in his studies, not great though .It is quite expensive. Is there an alternative that one can purchase from Discom / Clicks / Pharmacies etc that is reasonably priced but have good results.

My son is not hperactive at all. His behaviour is norma. H still suffers from an attention span ( He easily gets bored and leave unfinished work or easily forgets what he was doing and why ) Under tests he is found to be a very creative child but cant concerntrate for more that 10-15 minutes . Please HELP.

Hi Thasamo

Patrick holford has combined a number of beneficial products into his supplements. The basis of suplementation though should include a good multi vitamin and EFA's (Omega 3 and 6). The EFA's are found in Salmon Oil and Evening Prmrose Oil in capsule form and can be found at your local pharmacy at a cost effective price. a pharmacist will be able to give you good advice in this regard.

I had the same problem with my child, thus taking him off ritalin. He does not have a problem with his behaviour but with his concentration only, and like your son did not complete his work. He was a total ZOMBIE on Ritalin so I took him off it. I have tried Thinkwell, bcos it has only natural ingred. it takes longer to kick in,like about a month. I also send him for extra lessons and he is fine so far.Just persevere and be patient and you will have good results. His remedial teacher said to me there was no reason for him to have been on Ritalin in the first place, he just needs to increase his concentration span and be channelled a bit. She has asked me to give him activities(like puzzles) which require a lot of concentration...works wonders hey! try it...you'll be amazed. All the best.
