Q.

Would like to know about the medication Ritalin.

My son is 19 years of age and is studying towards a Degree in Mechanical Engineering. He has suffered from anxiety from a young age and has been using the medication, Sertra for around 7 years now. As a form of being able to focus and concentrate better during exams, it was suggested that he try using Ritalin as an effective way to achieve this. I am concerned about this idea as I have no knowledge of the side effects of using this medication only as a means to focus and concentrate at certain times.

If your son do not have a confirmed diagnosis of ADHD, he should not use Ritalin. Ritalin can also escalate his anxiety - which will then impair his ability to concentrate.
