Q.

Retalin

Hi Dr, Boy age 6 (very hyperactive and cannot sit still) He has seen a Developmental Paediatrician, who recommended Ritalin. From what I can research it is the only medicine available that has shown to treat ADHD. He is currently on Mentat and has been doing great. 1.My question is, do we continue with what he is on or start on Retalin? 2. If not treated correctly, can ADHD have further effects 3. Does study show Ritalin as a treatable solution, long term?

Methylphenidate (e.g. Ritalin and other products) are the current gold standard of treatment for ADHD. Untreated ADHD can lead to poor educational attainment, comorbid psychiatric disorders, and social complications. See http://renataschoeman.co.za/is-adhd-a-fairytale/
