Q.

How long can my kid use Concerta?

My child has been taking concerta for ADD since he was 12 years old. He is now 17 1/2. How long should he take this medication? He only takes it for school and does not take it on weekends or during Summer

Your son should bve ussing his medication daily. ADHD is not a "school disorder", but also impacts on other domains of life, e.g. socialization. Adolescents, especially those with ADHD, are more prone to risky behaviour and impulsive decisions. Only 30-40% of children "outgrow" ADHD. Perhaps consider having your son re-evaluated in terms of continuation of treatment.
