Q.

Can my son have ADHD? What can I do to help him in school?

Good day doctor. My son is turning 8 in June. He is in grade 2. He passed Gr1 with very good points. And received a gold certificate for maths. The problem is that the teachers complain that he does not sit still and does not finnish his class work in time because he will start but get distracted very quick. He will play with his hands or look outside or keep busy with anything else that distract him. I will talk to him but can see he does not listen. I have to tell him then to look at me while i'm talking to him before he realy listen and then ask if he heard me. He is not over active but he is a busy boy. He will always move his legs or hands while watching tv or doing home work or while eating. He always need to hold something in his hands.. Does not matter what it is. if he does not have something in his hands his Fingers would go cracy... As if it need to do something. He learn staff very fast. He is sometimes off balance. He gets demotiveted very fast and does not like to be wrong or do something wrong. He is a alone child with no brother or sister but do have a friend at school. He does not like team work or team sport as he does not like to lose but he do share what ever he has. Could it be ADHD or something else. My husband does not like the idea of giving him meds everyday. What can we do? Thank in advance Mariska
