Blue Hills Estate in Midrand provides the venue for this weekend’s Race 3 in the Momentum Health Meg-3 National Duathlon Series, and the conditions could not be better! Blessed with beautiful sunny days and hardly any wind, it comes as no surprise that the Gauteng event has drawn a record tally of 600 entries. Spectators are likely to see word class times being produced by the likes of Andrea and Wilhelm Steyn, Brand du Plessis, Theo Blignaut and Riana Robertson.

Against the background of the mechanical misfortunes that ruined her lead and saw her finishing in 7th place at Lourensford, a particularly strong performance is expected from Andrea Steyn as she seeks to reassert her dominance in the series. It is also worthwhile noting that she has just returned from two very strong performances in the 5150 Triathlon Series in America, placing second in both races.

For the weekend warriors, who may not have been getting in their intended winter training, Blue Hills offers a route that they will find very doable. The inclines are kind and the conditions are likely to be cool and windless, so getting to the finish line should be a fun, enjoyable journey for everyone, from the Fun Event entrants to the 6 year old going for a new personal best on their mountain bike! There will also be an opportunity to rub shoulders with cycling supremo Andrew McLean, and Gulam Bodi from the Highveld Lions.

Race distances for this off-road event will be the standard 5km run, 30km cycle and 2.5km run, with fun event entrants doing only 2.km, 13km and 2.5km. More details can be viewed on www.duathlon.co.za.
