Dog Walk, a tail-wagging success

The Discovery 702 Walk the Talk event, that took place on Sunday the 24th July 2011, was tail-wagging success. A staggering 55,000 people participated in the various walks and Pedigree registered 2,000 four-legged walkers for the 5km Dog Walk.

Pooches of all shapes and sizes did the wiggle and the waggle and although they were panting for breath, they were treated with delicious Pedigree treats and pools of water to splash in at the Pedigree Park.

Pedigree is the official Dog Sponsor of the Discovery 702 Walk the Talk for 2011. "As Pedigree, we are extremely excited with the turnout of dog lovers & their dogs on the day. As a brand our main mission is to make the world a better place for dogs by championing causes which make their lives better and providing them with food which enables them to live life to the full.

"Its was clear on the day that we were able to deliver on this brand mission as the dogs enjoyed their walks and also the great tasting and nutritious Pedigree products which were handed out at the finish line," says Tebogo Motsepe, Brand Manager for Pedigree.

Contribution for disadvantaged children as well

Owners enjoyed a great South African braai after their healthy exercise session while being entertained by local artists such as Elvis Blue, PJ Powers, Dr Victor and the Rasta Rebels.

The day was not just filled with fun and howls of excitement, but also contributed to a good cause as R10 from each entry were donated to the Laureus Foundation’s Sport for Good Projects, which uses sport to bring about positive change to disadvantaged children in South Africa.

Soccer star Ryan Botha participated in the 5km Dog Walk with model girlfriend, Gina Goldsmith, and Chihuahua, Chu. His comment on the day was, "Myself, Gina and Chu thoroughly enjoyed ourselves! It was amazing to see the response and support from the public. All in all it was a great day!"

Another famous face was that of Model and Scandal actor Litha Bam, who had the following to say: "It was a great Sunday out and I certainly think I'll be making a point of taking more walks with my dogs around what are really the best areas in one of the most beautiful cities in the world. Thanks for the experience Pedigree!"
