Kitty kinetics

Think of your cat and what it does most of the time. Right, so it's not aerobics. But cats need exercise too, if they are to stay healthy and not get obese. But this, you might think, is definitely easier said than done.

Take action:
Forget about taking kitty for a walk – cats are not pack or herd animals. Rather make a point of playing with your cat for just 10 or 15 minutes every day. Here are a few tips: cats will chase anything that moves – use a piece of crumpled paper or a small ball; dim the lights as cats are nocturnal hunters; cats love rough-and-tumble with other cats – only intervene if there are signs of real distress (a certain amount of hissing and clawing is quite normal); get your cat a scratch post, as nail sharpening is a good stretching exercise.
