Job stress sparks the blues

A high-pressure job could double your risk of anxiety and depression, research shows. Working long hours, a high volume of work, and working towards non-negotiable deadlines can put you at risk.

Take action:
Here’s how to reduce the pressure: make sure your job description is clear so that you know exactly what your responsibilities are; don’t cause unnecessary stress by coming late or being unprepared for meetings; don’t get involved in office politics; if you feel you’re being treated unfairly, do something about it by going through the right channels; you have a right to be involved in decisions that affect you at work – ask for this; if your job has become a test of endurance, accept that you may not be able to change things from within – get your CV together and start looking for something else.
