Leading a healthier lifestyle can be as simple as making sure you eat five portions of fruit and vegetables per day. Worldwide, the daily increased consumption of vegetables and fruit might save 2,7 million lives a year, according to recent estimates.

Take action:
The 5-a-Day for Better Health Trust provides the following tips for boosting fruit and vegetable intake: start each day with a fruit-based smoothie; double your normal serving of vegetables; add extra vegetables to salads, soups, stir-fries and stews; add vegetables to rice and pasta; eat a vegetarian meal at least once a week; choose vegetables and fruit in season as they are cheaper; and grab a piece of fruit when you're hungry and on the run.
