Ingrown toenails - when a section of the nail curves into the flesh of the toe - are often caused by poorly fitting shoes and improperly trimmed toenails.
The McKinley Health Centre at the University of Illinois, USA, suggests you prevent ingrown toenails by:
- Cutting your toenails straight across without tapering the corners.
- Not wearing shoes and socks that are too tight.
If you develop an ingrown toenail, prevent it from becoming infected by keeping your feet clean. – (HealthScout News)
