Vo5 Endurance Gel

Reviewer: Oliver Coetzer, musician

Hair gel is my thing. I know that sounds like an odd thing to say, but as a performer with particularly unruly hair that needs to look sharp and funky on stage, gel is a crucial tool for my job. What’s more, my hair gel needs to last. I can’t afford things up top to fall flat half way through my day or in the middle of a performance. I’ve probably tried more hair gels - and waxes and all sorts of other products - than anyone else I know and this product has really impressed me. It delivers what it promises: real endurance. I’m not sure what they put into this stuff, but it really works. As an added bonus Vo5 Endurance Gel smells really good and doesn’t leave your hair looking or feeling greasy or sticky.

Labello for Men

Reviewer: Werner Oosthuizen, store manager

I’ve always trusted Labello when it comes to looking after my lips and I think it’s brilliant that there is now a Labello especially for men. The handy little stick fits neatly into your pocket and the lip balm soothes and protects your lips in any weather without being shiny or glossy. This product is fragrance free and contains hop extracts. It also comes with SPF 6 and shields your lips against harmful UVA and UVB rays. I’ve become so reliant on my Labello for Men that I’ll turn around and head back home in the mornings if I forget to put it into my pocket. What a great little product.

Tropitone Splash SPF30

Reviewer: Sebastian Needham, teacher

As a passionate kite surfer I need a really effective sun cream almost every day. What’s equally important is that it has to be properly water resistant. Tropitone Splash SPF 30 provides me with both of those things. I’ve been using this smooth and non-greasy cream for almost a month in the hottest part of the Cape summer while surfing at every free moment and it has worked perfectly. One good application lasts for a long time and doesn’t get washed off even when you’re swimming rather than surfing. I now make a point of keeping a bottle of this product in my surfing bag all the time. If you spend a lot of time in the sun and water, I highly recommend Tropitone Splash SPF 30. Give it a try - you won’t be disappointed.

Meadowsweet Arnica and Rosemary Massage Oil

Reviewer: Musa Majola, architect

Life’s been incredibly stressful of late and I’ve learned to appreciate every moment in which I can relax and unwind. Since discovering the Arnica and Rosemary Massage Oil from local company Meadowsweet and realizing that my girlfriend is the most talented masseur ever, the time I’ve spent relaxing and unwinding has increased exponentially. This light, non-sticky oil has a soothing herbal scent. The arnica and rosemary both help with any muscle stiffness and pain. I also like the fact that this product is locally made and contains only natural ingredients and essential oils. Meadowsweet products are available for purchase at Wellness Warehouse branches nationwide as well as from their website: www.meadowsweet.co.za.

The Body Shop For Men Maca Root Energetic Face Protector SPF15,

Reviewer: Indres Sen, student

I liked this product from the first moment I started using it. It has a fresh, invigorating fragrance and it leaves my skin revitalized and soft. It gets absorbed easily and is non-greasy. I’ve not really used moisturizer regularly before, but these days I don’t leave the house without having applied some of this great product to my face. It contains softening and smoothing Brazil nut oil and Peruvian maca root and has a handy sun protection factor of 15. On top of all these great attributes, this is a product from The Body Shop, one of my favourite companies whose ethics I share and whose founder, the late Anita Roddick, I really admired.

Dermalogica Climate Control

Reviewer: Daniel White, media consultant

I have to say that I was a little confused when I first saw this product. It looks a bit like a mini deodorant stick, but that’s most definitely not what it is. And what does “climate control” mean anyway. But once I read the blurb on the back I got quite excited. Dermatologica Climate Control is a sophisticated balm especially developed to help heal skin that has been damaged by environmental factors like the sun’s rays, air pollution, harsh detergents and even stress, a poor diet and hormonal factors.

That seemed to be exactly what I needed. In recent months, my face has sporadically broken out into unsightly splotches that nothing has helped against. I don’t really know what the problem is - perhaps it’s my new job or the fact that I’ve been spending a lot of time in the sun, playing soccer and cricket. Whatever it is after using Dermatologica Climate Control for just two weeks, I’ve seen some real improvement. This product has a soothing herbal scent and contains a lot of therapeutic ingredients, like shea butter, oat extract, vitamin E and Dermatologica’s own anti-ozonate complex. Based on my personal experience, I’d recommend this balm to anyone with particularly sensitive and damaged skin, it’s really worth it.
