More medical waste dumped in Welkom

More medical waste was found dumped in the outskirts of Naudeville in Welkom, Free State police said.

"The waste which includes used syringes, apparatus, gloves and cotton wool with blood stains was discovered at an open field on Friday around 3.45pm by three men,"said Captain Stephen Thakeng.

The waste was then placed in five litre plastic bottles.

Thakeng said the Environmental Management Inspectorate, also known as the Green Scorpions, were called in to investigate further. "At this stage, no case has been registered until the arrival of the Green Scorpions."

This was the fifth illegal dumping of medical waste in the Welkom area. - (Sapa, January 2010)
