Mr O read in a newspaper article that bladder infections in young girls should always be investigated. In the article, frequent urination was stated as one of the symptoms of bladder infection.
No significant signs
Miss B is generally healthy with no medical or surgical history. She is also not allergic to any medications; she has a sweet tooth and drinks 6 glasses of water a day.
On further history taking the doctor did not find any mention of recent vaginal discharges or burning urine.
On examination the doctor did not find any significant signs, except for a slight tenderness in the left lower quadrant of the abdomen.
Urine testing was completely clear.
Based on the above information:
1. What special investigations would you do?
2. What is the most likely cause of the young girl's complaint?
3. How should you treat it?
