Yoga - 'weight-bearing excercise?'

Hi there!!

I love this forum - keep it up!!

Does yoga qualify as a 'weight-bearing excercise' which is
apparantly important to prevent osteoporosis etc?

If it does, are two classes weekly sufficient and can I throw away the dumbells?

Hi Laila, you can throw away those dumbbells because yoga definitely qualifies as a weight bearing exercise. In the postures you take the body weight into the arms, on each leg, on the head, shoulders, etc, etc - thus explaining why many practitioners appear strong. Although not the primary and only benefit of yoga (the calming, relaxing, meditative benefits being others), it certainly is one of them...
