Our expert says:
Hi Deon, one of the lessons in yoga is to not be attached to the outcomes of our efforts albeit that you should practice consistently and regularly to get all of the physical, mental and stress-reduction benefits of yoga. The reason I say this is that you need not be worried at arriving at a destination of being able to do lotus position - some people will never be able to practice what is a very difficult posture that requires a great deal of openness in the hips. This does not limit your ability to enjoy the benefits of the journey as well as the ability to mediate. Having said all of that, any hip-opening postures will help - be careful with the knees though - there should be not effort, tension, pain or pressure there...
