Our expert says:
You know what your family likes to eat, so just pack basic foods for the trip (plenty of drinks such as bottled water, fruit juice, yogi-sip, tea or coffee in a flask, sandwiches with interesting fillings, fruit, energy bars, and any other special foods or beverages you need depending on the age of the people travelling with you). For the lodge you sit down and make a menu for the period of your stay (e.g. 3 days and 3 people = 9 breakfasts, 9 lunches, 9 suppers). Then work out what you are going to serve: fruit juice, cereal and yoghurt for 1 breakfast (work out portions for 3 people), salad and cold meat for lunch, braai with garlic bread and salads for supper, etc. Make provision for extra snacks, alcoholic beverages if necessary, and take along sufficient water to meet the needs of all the people going along for the whole period (3 litres per person per day), because you don't know what the quality of the water will be like. Remember to take along coffee, tea, sterimilk (unless you have a fridge), sugar, jam, salt, pepper, and other condiments.
Enjoy the trip
