Adequate intake of liquids (which can include water) is essential to all life. In general adults require 2,5 litres of liquid (water, fruit juice, coffee, tea, rooibos, milk, cold drinks, etc) per day. The same applies when you are trying to lose weight. It will not help to drink vast volumes of water such as 4 L per day, to try and lose fat. In fact if you drink too much water you can cause what is known as 'Electrolyte imbalances' because important minerals like sodium, potassium, magnesium and even calcium are washed out of the body if you drink too much liquid. The electrolyte imbalances can cause a variety of negative symptoms and can even be fatal. So stick to having your 2,5 litres of liquid a day even when slimming.
