Actually, Johan, I agree. I think there is a sleazy sort of pseudo, fake-feminism going round, which seems to be encouraging women to imitate all the lousiest features of men, and to believe that there's something clever about being selfish, crude, hedonist drunks. As someone said : it's not hard for a woman to behave like a man -- sadly, it seems to be harder to behave like a gentleman. And when the sole criterion of whether something is Right, simply becomes the question "Does it feel good?" then individuals and society has lost a great deal.
Yes, women nowadays have more liberty, and about time too ! But this doesn't mean that the way some choose to waste that liberty doesn't deserve criticism.
Mona makes a brilliant point when she talks about noticing pregnant women, when she was pregnant --- when you're waiting to be fetched by someone in a red car, suddenly it seems as if every car on the road is red --- in other words, we see more of what, for whatever reason, we're expecting to see. But some cars are red, some women pregnant, and some women, disappointing those of us who unrealistically thought they'd universally set such a splendid example, behave like the worst men around.
Freedom, for all of us, is something we long for ---but we reveal our true nature by what we choose to do with that freedom. Many people, of all genders, races, and whatever other groups you notice, use it splendidly and admirably ; some use it grubbilly.
