20% of women ovulate at times other than the expected time, some as early as Day 4 of the cycle, thus the 'safe period' cannot be guaranteed.

Best wishes

It all depends on your cycle length. Everyone's cycle length is different. Average your cycle length is 28 days (From previous period to next period).

Pregnancy can only take place during the ovulation time....
Ovulation takes place 14 days before your next period.
The man's sperm can stay alive for 3-4 days.

Example 1.
If you have a normal average cycle of 28 days.., you will probably ovulate on day 14, so if you have intercourse on day 10, there is a possibility that some of the sperm is still alive by Day 14, and conception can take place.
Safe time for this person will be all the days up to day 9, and again after day 20.

Example 2.
If you have a short cycle of 24 months, you will probably ovulate on day 10, which means that intercourse on day 6 can made you pregnant. You might be safe before day 6 and after day 17.

This method is not 100% safe, and I would suggest that you use alternative protection as well, since no one knows exactly when her next period will arive, so you basically "guess" when your ovulation will take place,
also if you are not married, please consider all the sexually transmitted deseases as well before considering unprotected intercourse...

Take care
