Utrogestan & Pregnancy

Hi there,
When I was 4 weeks pregnant my gynae put me on Utrogestan, 1 tablet daily. Now, he says I can stop at 14 weeks. What did the utrogestan do for me and why must I stop? Will it still be safe for my baby if I dont take it any more?

Please let me know.

Uterogestan is used to support the pregnancy till the placenta is fully formed and takes over this job. This usually occurs around 12 - 14 weeks, so it is okay to stop now.

Best wishes
