Tummy ache and diarrhoea

Dear Doc
My 2 yr 8 mth old daughter has been complaining for the last 3 weeks of tummy aches and she has had a frequent runny tummy inbetween (very liquidy). Tests in the first week showed she had a potassium deficiency (not sure if this was a symptom or cause). Combiforte was prescribed to solidify her stool but she came right the next day, so we didn't obtain that medication.
This was accompanied, at times, by a medium fever. We have been giving her Buscopan and Pectrolyte but it doesn't seem to be helping very much.

Please advise as we are becoming extremely concerned at this point.

Sundil, the fever seems to suggest that it is due to an infection. It might be a virus, bacteria or a parasite. The best would be to have a stool sample sent away for MC&S (Microscopy, Culturing & Sensitivity). In the meantime you just have to keep her from dehydrating, but that should not be too much of a problem, as she isn’t vomiting. Good luck.
