Our expert says:
A diagnosis will need to be made by making a thick blood smear. On confirmation of the disease there is a specific drug that will need to be administered. If the disease is diagnosed let me know and I will find out more about the treatment. (The disease is not common in SA (usually seen in animals thta have been abroad / neighbouring countires).)
