Dear D
While the dr is doing tests on your client's thyroid, he does not want any external factors such as exercise to affect what we call the "baseline values". The dr needs to determine what these baseline values are before introducing treatment which could consist of thyroid hormone replacement and exercise if the individual has an underactive thyroid, or radioactive iodine therapy without exercise if she has an overactive thyroid. The reason why patients with an overactive thyroid should not do strenuous exercise is that they suffer from very severe palpitations which could lead to a variety of problems when they are exposed to stress such as exercise. Once the tests are completed your client will know if she is allowed to exercise or not.
