Have been on eltroxin since March 2006 but still gaining weight and do not overindulge, very aware of weight gain. What supplements can one take to assist weight loss and what foods must one avoid with thyroid problems? Only eat fish and chicken, lots of vegs, salad and fruit.

Dear Georgie
It may be a good idea to return to the dr who is prescribing your Eltroxin to see if your dosage needs to be adjusted. Tell the dr that you are still gaining weight despite your present dosage. To counteract this effect you need to reduce your fat and energy intakes by eating an energy-reduced, low-fat, high-fibre diet (click on 'Diet' at the top of this page, 'Weight loss', ‘Balanced diet’ and then on 'Slimming Diet' for a copy of such a diet), and increasing your energy output by doing regular exercise (running, jogging, skipping, cycling, swimming, join a gym or Walk for Life). While you are on the ‘Weight loss’ site, read about every aspect of slimming (Diet pills, slimming aids, psychological aspects, etc) by surfing on this site.
