However, tea and coffee contain caffein, which when ingested in excess can cause various symptoms like sleeplessness, irritability, tremors, etc. Generally speaking it is advisable not to drink more than 4 cups of caffein-containing coffee per day. You can drink slightly more tea. When it comes to hot chocolate, this drink can cause weight gain if you drink it with full-cream milk and too much sugar. So have your hot chocolate with fat-free milk or water and go easy on the sugar. There is no real difference between white and brown sugar and both provide about 80 kJ per teaspoon. Cow's milk esp fat-free cow's milk is by far the better option when compared to coffee whiteners. The latter contain a lot of fat, saturated fat and in some cases trans-fatty acids all of which are harmful to health. So use cow's milk and preferably the fat-free version.
