Tb sputum testing

Hi Dr.

Can you explain to me in details the Tb sputum testing. The procedure how it is tested and all relevant information about the sputum test.

Dear Dee
You will be asked to cough up some sputum from the lungs into a sterile cup.
The Sputum is then examined by staining it to see the TB bacilli under the microscope. Then the sample is put into a growth medium and cultured for a few weeks - this tells us for which anti tb medication the germ will be sensitive to.
