If there is significant "wedging" of the vertebra (collapse of the vertebra) a vertebroplasty operation can be done which leads to immediate pain relief in most cases. (it is done through a tiny hole from behind and a special type of cement is injected into the vertebra to repair it and stabilise it. If it is a case of the fractures left to heal on their own (which is often the case) full recovery can take a month or two depending how bad it is
