Swollen gland in neck possibly EO gas contamination.

Hi Doc

My boyfriend is an engineer and has come into contact with dangerous levels of Ethylene Oxide gas (used for sterilisation) twice in the past three weeks. He has a gland in his neck that is painful and swollen, for 7 days now. It makes swallowing uncomfortable. He has suffered from Glandular fever about 6 years ago and the gland always swells when he gets cold or feels fluish.

Do you know what the systems of EO gas contamination are?
Should he go for any specific tests?
And can he have the gland removed?

Any advice would be great. Thank you very much.

Bridget, it is probably due to a throat infection and the best would be for him to see his doctor about it. While he is there the doctor can also make sure that nothing else is the matter like a liver problem for instance. Good luck.
