Storing blood for childbirth

I would like to know if there is a way to store your own blood before birth in case needed during birth or if a relatives blood could be stored / used. Also, do a lot of mothers require blood during childbirth or is it rare? Thank you

It is possible to store blood but the procedure is complicated and a haematologist or blood bank would have to advise you. If there are bleeding complications at birth blood transfusion is required. This is not particularly common.

Best wishes
