Mosey, I think you’re referring to Stein-Leventhal syndrome – an ovarian problem also know as polycystic ovary syndrome. Is your friend female? Let me know and we’ll take it from there. Good luck.

Dear Mosey

Its Stein-Leventhal syndrome is also known as Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome, or PCOS. Its basically hormonal abnormalities which cause the ovary to produce many small sized follicles, in stead of one big follicle per month. Ovulation therefore does not take place, and hence your friend might be experiencing problems getting pregnant or else problems with her cycle. PCOS also causes insulin resistance, hyperinsulinemia and weight problems. Its treatable and treatment would include weight loss by special diet, exercise and maybe tablets to improve insulin sensitivity. Take a look at this website pcosupport dot org.
