statins

50yrs,female.LDL 5.1& mdash follow heart healthy life style.My Dr wants to put me on a statin& mdash -I am not sure if this is a good idea

If your cholesterol level is almost normal on a good diet, and you don't have major risk effects (diabetes, gout, existing heart disease, hypertension) a statin is not always necessary. However, if your cholesterol is above 5 with risk factors it may be better to take a statin.
