Dear Jo-ann
The spinal cord is covered by a "sac" containing cerebro spinal fluid (CSF) - it probably sprung a leak with the injury - normally closes up by itself but can cause low CSF pressures causing headache, dizziness and can be a risk for infection. If it persists for longer than a week they may want to operate and close the small hole.
