Our expert says:
There is a whole lot of controversy around soy – the long and the short is that it has its place in the protein protocol, as it contains what is known as the critical cluster which means it is much higher in glutamine, argentine and BCAA than whey. It also contains Isovlavones which has a positive effect on the thyroid hormones, which helps to regulate metabolism, thus could assist with weight loss, and it is also beneficial in supporting heart health. It is generally regarded as old news that soy increases estrogen levels in men, and now days it is rather known to for its positive effects. Thus all said consume a protein shake with mostly whey concentrate, a little whey isolate (very expensive), also some whey casseinate as it is slower releasing and a little soy for its health benefits. I will not recommend you take a complete soy product as all these players add some value to the equation and balance is best!
