sore calves and forearms

Morning! Please help. My husband suffers from very sore calves and forearms. It seems to be only on the tendons, which pull tight and pain really badly. This used to happen only occationally but lately it is getting worse and seems to be there constantly. We massage with " iceman"  gel/voltaren which helps to a certain degree but he now has to take painkillers almost everyday which is not good. He hates doctors and says thay they will just do x-rays and then tell him to do what we are doing already.Any suggestions. Many thanks.

The pain is most likely due to an inflammatory process, affecting the large tendons. He will therefore, have to consult his doctor for a full examination and blood tests, to exclude inflammation and to get treatment.
