Dear JonnyB

You need to eat foods that will sustain your energy levels and keep your body hydrated. Firstly, water is essential and make sure you drink at least 2 liters during the course of the days driving. Start the day by having a good breakfast with protein, complex carbs and good fats as this will kick start your blood sugar levels. An egg, whole wheat toast with butter and avocado pear for example is perfect. In the car have some fruit such as bananas and apples and snack on dates and raw almonds and biltong. Take your Bio-Strath Elixir throughout the day to keep your concentration levels high. Make sure that you slept well the night before and avoid alcohol for a day beforehand.

As a lunch time meal, make yourself some chicken drumsticks or frikadella (meat balls) or boerewors as protein with some potato salad and a wholewheat sandwich with lettuce, tomato and cucumber on it. Drink lots of water, take your dose of Bio-Strath and go for a short brisk walk to stretch your legs and supply your body with oxygen.

You must take short breaks at least every 200km's to stop and revive. Even better, have a friend or family member that can share the driving, giving you time to nap. Avoid stimulants such as sugar, sweets, and caffeine if possible unless you are feeling very tired then a good quality cup of coffee can be helpful.

Energy is sustained with protein, it is raised by complex carbs and good oils and fats are fuel for the body. This is why all three food groups at every meal is what you need to stay alert. Water carries the energy and is vital to good health as is oxygen.

Keep safe and enjoy Cape Town.
