Dear Anonymous
Snoring is caused by lax tissue at the back of the throat and the soft palate, so no medication will really help. Losing weight if overweight, positioning the head so that the airway is open and treating allergies and a blocked nose will be useful. Snoring can lead to sleep apnoea ( when a patient stops breathing in his sleep ) this can be dangerous and leads to high blood pressure, increased risk of stroke and heart attacks. Let your Gp examine the throat and decide whether it is necessary to see an ENT specialist for evaluation and or possible operation?
