Smelly Labrador

Our wonderful friend a black labrador Ainsley has a terrible smell to him. We bath him regularly and keep his kennel clean. Is it something we are feeding him or is this common in Labradors.

Bad smell can be food or skin. It is probbaly a good idea to have yuor vet check him over to make sure his skin is healthy. A skin infection can cause a rancid smell. Anal glands also cause a severe smell and your vet can show you how to empty these. Wear gloves!

There's a condition they can get which causes an unpleasant smell, called malassezia - it's a fungal thing - perhaps you'd like to google it.

You don't say where the smell's coming from - skin? mouth? ears? - but if it's the skin, then this could be the problem - your vet will be able to diagnose and treat the condition, if that's what it is.
