Sleeping problems

Hi CD

I battle to fall asleep at night, I don't sleep during the day by the time i get into bed i'm so exhausted but the moment i switch the lights off then i toss and turn and become very restless eventually falling asleep after watching the clock at about 4am an up again at around 7am, before i could get into bed and fall asleep straight away even after having a long afternoon nap but no more. My Dr prescribed Trepiline 25mg to take one at night does not help at all. I tried increasing the dosage taking two at night no help what so ever. What is happening to me?????

Dear Micky

Insomnia can be primary or secondary due to other problems like depression, anxiety or pain. The first step is to go to your doctor for a medical examination to see if there are any specific medical or psychological causes for the insomnia. It helps if you keep a "sleep diary" to show him how much you slept and when.
Things you can do yourself:
Try and avoid stimulants like alcohol and coffee, red bull, coke or other energy drinks.
Try not to watch stimulating TV programmes just before going to bed
Try not to eat too late in the evening
Try to get more exercise or participate in other stress-relieving activities like dancing or yoga.
